In France, wine is more than just a drink; it is a way of life. Unfortunately, that ethos didn’t quite make it all the way across the channel and for many of us wine is either a special treat for a fancy dinner or an easy way to get drunk before a night on the town. We have lost the true meaning of wine and that is a real shame. However, there are plenty of opportunities to get clued up about this glorious drink and become somewhat of a connoisseur so you can easily tell your merlots from your malbecs, impress (or annoy) your friends and rediscover the joy of drinking and understanding wine.
Matter of Taste – 6th-8th April
Taking place at the stunning De Vere Grand Connaught in Central London, this three day event will have your mouth tingling and your head spinning by the end. Starting with an exclusive wine dinner on the Thursday, the program carries on through the weekend with tastings, master classes with renowned wine critics and, of course, more dinners.
Greek Wine Tasting – 25th April
Wine might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Greece but trust us when we say that behind the feta and olives they have some spectacular wines. This event is being held by the Greek Embassy and Wines of Greece and there will be over 350 different wines for you to sample and purchase from across this wonderful country. Oh and it’s free!
Humble Grape owns two wine bars in London and hosts various wine tasting events throughout the year. Some of their tasting sessions focus on one particular region (the Amazon, for example) while others focus on an era or the technicalities of wine production. Whichever session you go for, however, you are guaranteed a boozy and brilliant time learning all about your favourite tipple.
Davy’s Wine Merchants
Just like Humble Grape, Davy’s hosts a number of different events to delight your taste buds. Pleasure seekers can choose from dinners, where wine is expertly paired with an array of gourmet dishes, masterclasses and cheese and wine evenings. Each has its own appeal but if none of them suit you then get in touch with Davy’s and ask them to create your very own bespoke wine tasting evening for a unique and fascinating evening with friends.
Discovery Wine Tasting Evening – 23rd May
This event is held in the wonderful Brasserie Blanc on Belvedere Road and is an excellent introduction into the world of wine. Throughout the night, guests will be able to sample 7 different wines and will learn in the process why some appeal to your taste buds more than others and what to look for/smell when tasting a wine. Antipasti and charcuterie boards will be served alongside your beverage, making this pretty much a perfect evening.
