It is generally understood, that there are few things in life that are as capable of giving so much pleasure to so many people as wine is. Wine brings people together, starts conversations and ensures a good time is had by all. It even makes food taste better! So, with this in mind, it seems only fitting that the most important city in the world would devote an entire week to the most important grape-based beverage in the world. From the 23rd-29th of May, London Wine Week will take over the city, leaving, in its wake, a blurred, yet beautiful haze of bliss. So to facilitate your week of fine wining, we have compiled a list of some of the events that will be taking place during the festival.
Vins de Provence: Le Beach Bar
Location: Devonshire Square
That’s right; if you can’t make it to the beach, bring the beach to London. This event sees 12 deliciously crisp rosés displayed and poured for your enjoyment. The aim is to showcase not just the exquisite taste but also the diversity of the wines from the 3 Provence regions: Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, Coteaux Varois en Provence. Have a glass, relax and, if you feel like it, learn a bit about the production of this marvellous creation.
Bluebird in Bloom: McQueens Floral Masterclass & Rothschild Wine Dinner
Location: 350 Kings Road
At £140 a head, this event is guaranteed to be a showstopper. After a champagne reception, the guests of this exclusive dinner event will be introduced to the found of the famous McQueens Florists, Kally Ellis. She will then lead a workshop and teach her diners how to create the perfect bouquet, which, naturally, they will be able to take home with them at the end of the night. The flowery fun is then followed by a ‘five course floral-inspired tasting menu’. Oh and there will be loads of wine as well. Obviously.

This event is curated by Philippe Koch of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who will be giving attendees a glimpse into the history of his family and its esteemed estates. As the wine flows, the kitchen at Almeida will serve up some canapés to complement the drinks and stave off the hunger. As a bonus, if you decide to have dinner at the Almeida afterwards, you’ll get a 20% discount off the bill.

This delightful little event will give us, the averages Joes and Janes of the world, the chance to become a professional wine-drinker for 2 sweet hours. Around a dozen wines will also be participating in this event. The aim is for the Honest Grapes company to work out what drinkers look for in a what wine to better inform their purchasing, so really we are doing them a favour by drink all this wine! They are also holding a Bottle Amnesty Fiesta where you will be able to bring any old bottles of rubbish you have in the house and swap it with one of their premium wines.
LWW X Disappearing Dining Club: The Banquets
Location: Devonshire Square
The most exciting of collaborations, London Wine Week teams up with the Disappearing Dining Club to bring the mother of all banquets. The venue will be dressed up to the nines and the food will be perfectly paired with the selection of wines that have been gathered for the event. So head up to the warehouse-turned-dining room, grab a glass and treat your tastebuds to an extravagant four-course meal.
Referendum 2016 Tasting: In vs Out
Location: Brixton Ritzy Picturehouse
With the Brexit vote looming in the distance, the country is starting to look a little divided but don’t worry, wine will sort everything out (as per). Throughout the night drinkers will be treated to a selection of UK-produced beverages along with tipples from the continent and will then have to decide whether they want to stay with Europe or not. If only it was that simple in real life.
Location: 76 Stoke Newington Road
What could possibly be better after a day of drinking wine than a chance to go and sway to some fresh beats (and drink more wine)? The event will be held at Ruby’s in Dalston, a nice big venue to fit everyone in. There will be music, merriment and merlot so make sure you check this place out once you’re done roaming through London in search of your next beverage.
Of course this is not an exhaustive list of everything that’s going on but it should be more than enough to get you started. Now go forth and imbibe until your heart’s content!
